Family Medicine is a specialty that requires the acquisition of the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to provide contemporary, high-quality, evidence-based healthcare services in accordance with medical ethics principles. It aims to contribute to the health of individuals, families, and communities by protecting and improving health at all stages of life – childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and old age – without discrimination based on gender, complaint, or disease. It focuses on the early diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and rehabilitation of all health problems that may be encountered at the primary care level.
Family medicine has existed as a specialty in Türkiye since 1983. Specialty training in family medicine began in hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Health in 1985 and in universities from 1995 onwards. The Department of Family Medicine at Gaziantep University Faculty of Medicine became actively operational in 2018 with the appointment of Dr. Hatice Tuba Akbayram.
OUR MISSION
To raise awareness among medical students about the Family Medicine discipline and to contribute to their acquisition of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they will use in providing primary healthcare services after graduation.
To train family medicine specialists who possess core competencies in Family Medicine, are sensitive to the health problems of the community, prioritize preventive medicine, follow and update their knowledge of current medical information, provide evidence-based and high-quality healthcare services, uphold ethical values, and have good communication skills.
To conduct scientific research that can shed light on the delivery of primary healthcare services.
To provide high-quality primary care services tailored to the needs of the community and to collaborate with other medical disciplines.
OUR VISION
To be a clinic that contributes to the Family Medicine discipline and conducts scientific research, where physicians equipped with up-to-date knowledge and skills are trained to provide primary healthcare services within the framework of the fundamental principles of the Family Medicine discipline.
