Histology reveals what a living organism is.
Terminologically meaning the science of tissues, histology examines all living things microscopically, from cells to organs, tissues to systems, and reveals how tissues are organized.
Embryology is the branch of science that studies the formation of a living organism from the zygote stage onwards.
It provides information about the beginning of human life. By revealing prenatal development and changes, it enables us to understand deviations in human morphology.
Thus, the sciences of Histology and Embryology prepare the groundwork for other branches of science.
Our department started its activities on July 14, 1998, with the appointment of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet YÜNCÜ as the Head of Department. In 2000, it strengthened its teaching staff with the appointment of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serap İNALÖZ and Dr. Ayhan ERALP, who had worked temporarily for a while.
In 2011, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet TÜRKER, and in 2015, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nuray BAYAT, also started working in our Department.
Our Department provides practical and theoretical Histology and Embryology courses in the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Health Sciences, and Vocational Schools of Health Services.
In addition, we offer medical specialization training and postgraduate education under the Institute of Health Sciences. Our Department conducts research at the light and electron microscopic levels.
In recent years, we have also begun work on cell culture.
