The Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at Gaziantep University Faculty of Medicine began its educational and healthcare services on May 3, 1990, with one faculty member (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Kanlıkama) and two research assistants. Initially, outpatient services started in a small room on the ground floor of the former Chest Diseases Hospital in Kolejtepe, and clinical services began in a 5-bed unit on the second floor of the former Maternity Hospital in Kozanlı. In December 1993, with the arrival of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Semih Mumbuç, the number of faculty members increased to two and the number of research assistants to four.

With the relocation of the inpatient units and operating room to a building completed within the campus in January 2000, services began to be provided in a more modern and well-equipped facility. With the move to the new outpatient clinic building in June 2004, services in the outpatient clinic and audiovestibular unit began operating under modern conditions.

Currently, our clinic continues to provide clinical services with a modern operating room containing 17 operating rooms equipped with laminar flow and HEPA filters, ensuring Class I sterility, along with approximately 25 specialized beds and private rooms.

Our clinic provides outpatient services to approximately 15,000 patients and inpatient services to 2,500 patients annually, performing an average of 2,000 surgeries per year. Approximately half of these operations are ear and nose-related procedures. Surgical treatment of chronic otitis media (chronic inner ear inflammation), stapedectomy (otosclerosis surgery), cochlear implantation (bionic ear implantation), SMR (septum deviation correction), rhinoplasty (nose surgery), and functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) are frequently performed. Oncological procedures constitute approximately 10% of all patients. These include Total or Partial Laryngeal Surgery (laryngeal cancer surgery), Thyroid (goiter) related surgeries, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Parotid (salivary gland) surgery. Additionally, Head and Neck surgery, Facial Plastic-Reconstructive surgery, Maxillofacial surgery, Bronchoesophagology, Skull base surgery, acoustic neuroma and vertigo surgery, pedunculated and free flap applications, and voice surgery procedures are also performed.

Our clinic utilizes the latest technological equipment in surgeries, including microscopes, endoscopes, navigation systems, and laser applications.

Our Audiology, Neonatal Hearing and Screening Unit, Balance Disorders, and Voice Disorders units provide audiological tests, caloric tests, ENG, and voice analysis to approximately 4000 patients annually. Stroboscopic examinations are performed on approximately 1000 patients annually in the voice disorders unit.
