The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) at Gaziantep University Faculty of Medicine was first established in 1997 at Kolejtepe Research Hospital under the name "Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation" headed by Dr. Savaş Gürsoy. It started providing services with one polyclinic and one treatment room. In 2004, the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation moved to Şahinbey Research Hospital and continued to provide services with 2 faculty members, 2 research assistants, 1 physiotherapist, 2 polyclinics and 1 treatment room.
Today, our Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation serves with 4 faculty members, including 3 Professors and 1 Associate Professor,
8 Research Assistants, 2 Physiotherapists, 1 Orthotics-Prosthetics Technician and 2 physical therapy technicians. Our department; The ward, with a capacity of 23 beds, consists of an outpatient unit with a daily capacity of approximately 80 patients, 2 general polyclinics, 1 osteoporosis polyclinic, and 1 rheumatological diseases polyclinic. Since 2010, the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation has established "Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation," "Pediatric Rehabilitation," "Orthopedic Rehabilitation," and "Rheumatic Diseases Follow-up" units. These units provide training for students, residents, and specialists, as well as residents and physiotherapists rotating from other hospitals.
